The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Davao Region, through its Conservation and Development Division (CDD), in partnership with the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG), the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-XI), and the Mt. Apo Natural Park Protected Area Management Office (MANP-PAMO), successfully conducted a Youth Environmental Caravan in Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur on March 12, 2026.
The activity gathered 50 enthusiastic students from Pedro Arches National High School who actively participated in interactive learning sessions on various environmental topics.
The discussions aimed to strengthen the studentsโ environmental awareness and understanding of key issues such as climate change, the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas Act (RA 11038), the conservation efforts for Mt. Apo Natural Park, geohazards and subsidence, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Environmental policies and key information materials from DENR-XI were also presented to encourage responsible environmental stewardship among the youth.
To make the caravan more engaging and memorable, the event featured a creative toy-making activity using recyclable materials. Students also participated in fun cheers and yells that tested and reinforced their learning while promoting teamwork, creativity, and active participation.
The activity was spearheaded by CDD Chief Franklyn R. Buenaflor, PhD, together with OIC-Protected Area Superintendent Clint Michael Cleofe and Senior Communication Development Officer Jayvee Jude V. Agas.
The Youth Environmental Caravan forms part of DENR-XIโs continuing efforts to raise the environmental literacy of the youth and encourage them to be proactive advocates of environmental protection, helping build a greener and more sustainable future for their communities.
