The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region XI is officially requesting that the Davao City Council designate Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) as a geological monument. This designation aims to enhance public awareness of the park’s scientific, cultural, and educational significance and to strengthen its candidacy for UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGP) recognition.
The proposed UGGP designation would cover three cities and four municipalities across Davao and Cotabato, thereby highlighting the regional significance of Mt. Apo. Additionally, plans are being developed to establish a UNESCO Base Camp in Brgy. Ilomavis, Kidapawan City. This facility is intended to serve as a hub for visitors and researchers, fostering sustainable tourism and conservation efforts in the area.
