Geosite 1: Seven Peaks and its Gods and Goddesses

Mount Apo has had several eruptions that created its rough landscape and unique peaks. The Seven Peaks of Mount Apo formed from volcanic activity, where layers of lava and ash built up during eruptions. Tectonic movements lifted and shaped the volcanic terrain, contributing to the creation of these peaks. Over time, erosion from wind, rain, and temperature changes carved out the distinct peaks we see today.

These peaks are special features of Apo Sandawa, also known as Mount Apo, which hopes to become a UNESCO Global Geopark. Each peak has a different height: Sta. Cruz Peak is 2,949 meters above sea level (masl), Bansalan Peak is 2,927 masl, the Unknown Peak (or Center Peak) is 2,951 masl, Digos City Peak is 2,929 masl, Crater Peak is 2,953 masl, Davao City Peak is 2,954 masl, and Kidapawan Peak is 2,944 masl.
